Two Quick and Easy Tools to Create Project Timelines
Now let’s review the Pros and Cons of Office Timeline and Asana.
Office Timeline:
This tool is easy to use and allows you a level of comfort when learning how to use the tool because it is integrated with PowerPoint. It is great for providing a visual when setting expectations for project timelines and allowing stakeholders to understand the flow of the project. There are three different editions of Office Timeline, so it is important to understand your needs and expectations when selecting the edition, you want to use. Below is a screenshot of the editions offered to consumers along with the current pricing information.
Now let’s discuss the cons of Office Timeline, there is a little learning curve that must be considered when discussing formatting and updating color themes. There are a lot of options, and it can be a daunting task to learn how to navigate through the formatting, color, and styling options available. The good news is once you master those options it will make creating timelines quick and easy.
Asana Timeline:
The timeline feature in Asana is very easy to use and has a variety of premade templates that can be used, or you can even create your own template.
My favorite feature of Asana timeline is drag and drop, this feature makes it easy to change due dates, extend or shorten your project timeline. Another great feature is the ability to assign a task to a team member for completion straight from the timeline. This allows project leaders and team members have a complete picture of the entire project and assignments at once.
While overall this is a great timeline tool there are a few drawbacks to using Asana timeline. The first drawback is that it can be an expensive subscription if you want all the bells and whistles. But the biggest con that I found while using Asana timeline is that there is no visually appealing way to export the timeline to include in a presentation for a client.
